The AOU have always lumped the Herring Gulls (they were reviewed and the proposal to split
smiths didn't pass:
http://www.aou.org/committees/nacc/prop ... 3#2007-B-1), the teals are not split by AOU NACC/SACC, but
Anas carolinensis is still recognised by e.g. IOC, AERC & BOURC. Likewise they don't split
Saxicola maurus, which is recognised by e.g. Clements.
