Max, Further to my brief observation on Sunday 19 April re the notorious and mysterious 'Manton Triangle' and to your subsequent 'As if ' comment, I have been re-reading the post written by that 'previously committed', hallucinating and superannuated pensioner (some say afflicted with a permanent twitch )....The Silver List - Lincs Bird Chat, March 2008. It's now had some 3100 hits, all but 3 traced by ATS (Advanced Tracking Systems ) to a lone, well-defined bunker mound in the grounds of the former psychiatric hospital in Bracebridge Heath and from an area formerly occupied by the top security 'Manton Ward', chillingly shown in former architects' plans as being triangular in shape. Hallucinating pensioner ....yes, but I now realise (as you do) how spookily and forecastingly accurate he was in his uncontrolled ramblings in March 2008 regarding the present 2009 'debates' about the Manton Triangle Goshawks and Marsh Tits. Quote " .....the Manton Triangle - bordered in general by Gainsborough to the West, Scunthorpe to the North and Brandy Wharf (off the A15) to the East. ...'.to boldly go where few birders have gone before and returned normal'. This area is the strange and mysterious haunt of ancient megaticks. It holds many secrets and one can experience unexplained discrepancies in the time/space continuum. It has been rumoured that certain missing birders have occasionally been teletransported from here to other points in time and space. There are unsubstantiated reports of locals coming across an arcane and enigmatic individual, especially along the northern fringes of the Triangle who, at closing time and particularly during the height of the mating season of the endemic Yellow-bellied Goshawk, talks gibberish. .... Some critics claim that .... certain birds appear here as terrestrial and also aerial holograms which can only be seen by particularly sensitive or inexperienced birders."
And to cap it all (can you Adam and Eve it , Max ) a " certain local resident" now pops up and claims UFOs have been sighted in the general area, moving North to South - apparently looking for a landing site in the said Manton Triangle? Pinch yourself, Max, you may be in the middle of some Sam Smiths induced dream. Did those aliens write this script and beam it down to the Manton Ward area of Bracebridge Heath only to be picked up by my over-sensitive computer nearby? We may never know!
Regards,
Freddy
