Prompted and encouraged by Nick Clayton's web photo of Large Heath taken at Crowle yesterday (4 July), I decided to pay my first visit of the year to the Reserve today (Sun).
Showers were threatening late morning/early afternoon but I managed to locate (in the sunshine)
22 x Large Heath
before a threatened shower did arrive (just back in my car by then.) :D
I particularly searched the top track beyond the 6 bar gate and stile. Recent 'grass cutting' meant that it was quite a trek along the track until the first flowers (esp. Knapweed ) were in evidence and with them the butterflies. I chatted with another butterflier (Tony Bamford) who, earlier in the day, had taken some photos of the Large Heath at the Reserve.
Also incl :
15 x Large Skipper
1 x Red Admiral
Ringlet
Meadow Brown.

Regards,

Freddy

I sometimes visit somewhere when I see others photos, I'm glad I had the same affect. I hope the vampire flies didn't consume too much of your blood Freddy.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Freddy,

The person who you chatted with at Crowle was not Tony Bamford, it was Colin Pumfrett, where did Tony Bamford come from?

Colin.

Hi Colin,
Many apologies! You were the only person I met at Crowle and obviously I didn't catch your name correctly. (I certainly hadn't been indulging at the "Lock, Stock and Barrel" in Crowle.) I live quite close to RAF Waddington and, as I mentioned to you, my ears were still ringing from the Airshow jet noises on Saturday and also Sunday morning (Tinnitus strikes again.).....one of the reasons I got away from the Waddington area for the afternoon. At least, you caught my name :D
Nice to meet up with you, Colin (and not Tony Bamford!)

Regards,

Freddy
