Could the Admin Team please make an OFFICIAL announcement for ALL LBC members to share in this fantastic birding news without further delay.......hopefully not just 3 words and a website reference.
Or perhaps Graham himself could brief us (plus the photos), as appropriate.
( One understands that the bird at Nesseby Varanger could well be the first photographically documented record in the Western Palearctic.)

Regards,

Freddy

Damn!.......and there was I thinking that Nesseby Varanger was somewhere between Skegness and Grimsby.
However, irrespective of the geographical location of the event, and in view of the great significance of the report, I just thought that the LBC Admin Team might just make an exception on this occasion (bearing in mind that a fellow LINCOLNSHIRE birder is involved) and give it some real prominence eg. on the General Lincs Birding site which by a small stretch of the imagination could include this item rather than its being side-brushed to Non-Lincs Birding Overseas along with run of the mill overseas reports.
Obviously, in its wisdom, the Admin Team - and inevitably our ever patrolling website night watchman getting in on the act, as usual - think otherwise.
BUT, what do other members think?
Should not this report be given due and special prominence as a tremendous achievement by a LINCOLNSHIRE birder - recording and photographing what could well be a SECOND sighting for the Western Palearctic. Records don't come much more remarkable and newsworthy than that.

Regards,

Freddy

my old mucker i think the non appearance on our website is much more likely to do with the crinkly £10 pound notes, because if birding world are doing an article they would want exclusive rights. So copyright infringements come into it. This sight would be way down the pecking order but there is a place on this sight for every subject and note my use of the word our website not the selective few.

Well done to Mr C,it's not every day you find a first for Europe and get stonking photo's too!!But this will change the outlook for all claimed Fea's and Zino's Petrel in European water's in the future, with a new species to eliminate.

Thanks for the comments Freddy; maybe odd replies will explain why I have not posted further on this on the Lincs site! but for anyone interested I have copied the text from the blog below and added a few lines. As for the vast sums received from publication in B World well lets say little more than <a years subscription.

Having been to Finnish Lapland and Varanger Northern Norway on two previous occasions with Mark Bannister with ever improving digital photo gear I was keen to make a return trip in 2009, 3 years after our most recent visit, and Mark was also keen so we planned at 9 day trip in early June 2009. I like early June because for the most part the mossies have not hatched but all the birds are in and on territory with a few wintering wildfowl still present on the fjord or the edge of the Barent's Sea. This year was cold, it was 3C on our first day with frequent snow showers falling for three days and full winter kit was needed. After two days in northern Finland we headed up to our base at Vastre Jocobselv on the shore of Varanger. On the evening of June 6th 2009 we arrived at Varanger and decided to stop off at Nesseby to look for waders on the high tide. There were few waders in evidence but several Arctic an Long-tailed Skuas offshore and a few flocks of auks. I was tracking a passing Arctic Skua with my camera and taking a few shots when it attacked a seabird in front of us which quickly proved to be a pterodroma petrel; the bird was only in view for a few minutes before flying off down the fjord towards Vadso but I managed to get a set of small images of the bird with a 500mm lens and these proved on inspection to show what most people agree is a Soft-plumaged Petrel only the second for the Western Palearctic and the first for the North Atlantic; in fact there has been only one other record in the Western Pal and that was at Eilat. The full significance of this record will take a while to register but in effect it means that claims of pterodromas in the North Sea will now need to exclude this southern species rather than just being assumed to be Fea's or Zino's.
To get decent photos of any rare seabird is a real challenge but getting shots of a pterodroma from the shore is staggering and I am still in shock after 5 weeks!
the photos are here

Freddie,
All the nightwatchman has to say ( to plagiarise a previous thread of yours) "Omnia ad eum venit qui expectat" By the way, well done Graham - your dedication deserves such results.

mr c i never ever meant the rustle of £10 notes prevented your disclosure it was the first publication that birding world might insist on. if by my comments you have misunderstood or i did not quite make it as clear as i should have then i truely apologise. no offence was meant by me i was merely trying to explain there were perhaps other reasons as to why there had yet been no postings on this truely magnificent record. if i have caused offence it was unintentional and once again many congrats, having also visited the varanger area i just wish i had seen the species. i am truely a pelagic freak and fully understand the difficulty of getting quality shots of anything.

Stewart,
Further to your Latin quote, I always prefer the equivalent French aphorism as being more pithy :
Tout vient a qui sait attendre (plus grave accent , as appropriate).
Regarding my original posting on the Lincs Birding General website do remember ( to plagiarise Ovid ) :
Exitus acta probat.
One final thought.......... perhaps you forgot to add it in your aside to Graham :
....(your dedication deserves such results) but, sorry, not on a main LBC site.

GPC - maybe odd replies will explain why I have not posted further on this on the Lincs site!

Odd replies Graham we wonder why,? you very rarely report anything if you do it is late ?

you ask some Birders not to report from certain sites.

You ask many people for information but do not give it back

I will always remember you emailing me for Capercaillie sites in Scotland I replied with a good site, on the understanding you kept it to yourself & on return just to let me know how you got on, still waiting some years later, I did find out second hand !!! was not to much to ask

you must see why some lincs birders are frustrated Graham, take all give nothing ?

Dean...
