Black Bank 1520 - 1600:

Swallow - 3
Linnet - 32
Marsh Harrier - 1m
Kestrel - 1
Yellow Wagtail - 1

Was told by a guy called Pete Burke that the Osprey was seen this morning accompanied by a Buzzard close by JH and himself, I think. We had a good look from BB side, then Johnson's Ponds and later B. Hale but no sign.

Called at Johnson's Ponds but nothing.

Butterwick Hale 1655 - 1840

Yellow Wag - 1

Today as most times when visiting the Hale I parked close to the steel gates leading to the fishing ponds, all was quiet. We was only away 30 minutes and as we started back I could see smoke rising from near to the car, I said to Dave that's looks to be coming from my car it was black smoke. We both looked at each other and smiled. As we got closer I started to worry, I said have you got your mobile and Dave said no, well mine is in the car, could be a long walk home for one of us. On reaching the gates the car was safe, thankfully! But 50 yards away a fire was roaring. On inspection while we had been away somebody had dumped some pallets and either set fire to them or ... If the grass had been dry I would be minus the car, which doesn't bear thinking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who know this place the lane is very narrow and parking is very limited, there was no way I could have driven past the fire without doing damage to my car. So I rang 999 and asked for the Fire Service and gave them details. They arrived about 10 - 15 minutes later and put the fire out etc.

I have parked in that spot for years and never had any trouble till now BUT in future I will be extremely careful where I park. Often seen small fires that have been lit but usually near the concrete bridge.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TAKE CARE

John with Dave

Rog,

To be fair to the kids we were both of the opinion it was adults, the pallets weren't there when I drove past and parked up. And knowing that a pallet is heavy and there were at least six someone must have driven there in a truck and dumped them. Maybe they set fire to them we will never know, whoever did it had no regard for my car parked only 50 yards away. Dave said it was lucky that the grass etc was damp or it would have spread to car and further.

As I said earlier been going down there ten years and never had any problems. I'll be more vigilant in future and also not park there, will park on the brow where JH does.

And put mobile in pocket lol

John

PS: Just to cap it off not been well enough to find the Osprey so will have to wait a bit longer to see one lol
