Is it time to upgrade the LBC Logo?

Anyone got any thought or suggestion? Would we like a different species?

Present logo looks like this:

All sensible suggestions welcome

steppe grey perhaps, people surely have some great shots of this obliging individual, stuarts sparrow perhaps or something more in keeping with the county, GOSHAWK !!! , :shock:

The LBC heron logo does look slightly dated. But, I would have thought that a bird of the moment (such as Steppe Shrike or King Eider) would date even quicker?

The 2008 Bird Report (publishing date to be confirmed â€“ but 'soonish'.......) will have the Steppe Grey Shrike on the cover. I think this is a better place for the bird of the moment.

The LBC logo needs to have a species that best represents Lincolnshire birdlife, such as Barn Owl, Marsh Harrier or Corn bunting...........

More thoughts please

we still locally have reasonable numbers of a species which is in serious decline

I come from the school of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". The Heron is as much a bird of Lincolnshire as the others mentioned and I don't see a need to change it.

I agree with Stuart.
Why "upgrade" and change an immediately recognisable, historic and valued logo for the sake of change ? If we went along with that thinking, any new logo would also get the boot in due course and we would be back to square one - probably a Grey Heron in a green circle by a large nostalgic vote.

The present Logo looks OK to me, I easily recognise the logo when I see it in car windows of club members.

Keep the Heron and circular motif but the black wording appears funereal and needs a colour uplift. Just a suggestion.

I'm interested in what process led to this issue being raised in the first place. I've not been in the club very long so I have don't have any idea of the history of such things but there must have been a general feeling of dissatisfaction with the present logo, or perhaps not! Any how it looks great to me although a different colour font as has been suggested might create a more dramatic image - what about orange!

Hopefully, you will be aware that the LBC is in the process of producing a 2008 Bird Report. At present we have completed all the colour plates and assembled a large number of images etc.. We have a team of members writing up the species description based on the LBC 2008 database, and I hope that sometime in October we will be in a position to announce a publication date.

As this is the first annual report that has been produced for some time, it was suggested that we might want to look at the logo, that will be appearing on the front cover, and consider updating it? I felt that an open debate would be useful, and thank everyone for their comments - all very interesting.

At present, no decision to change the logo has been made; in fact I guess a committee decision would be required anyway.

But please keep the thoughts coming,

frankly without wishing to upset anyone the logo does look rather like a junior school output -- modern graphic design would produce a snappier and more up with the times image that would confer a change in attitudes and progress into the modern era -- I know a man who can -- there is no species that is really identified with Lincolnshire but as Grey Heron has resided for so long maybe it would be better to stick with it as a generalist species --

I've had a look at my stock of Bird Reports and found that a drawing of a Heron (not the current logo) disappeared off the front cover in 1990 when a "bird of the year" replaced it (Snowy Owl) and then a different rarity every year. It's only since the new periodical Rare and Scarce Bird Reports that the logo has actually appeared on the front cover. As I said before, it looks OK to me but if it is thought by the Committee that it should be "tarted up" I hope that the Grey Heron remains the subject of any new logo.
