Hi Rick, yes unfortunately we've certainly lost one nest and possibly a second, due to people climbing on top of the bank beside East Hide. There is a very clear sign asking people not to do this, which we supplemented with others and followed up with verbal requests whenever we could.

If I had observed this behaviour myself I would have passed the details to our Wildlife Crime Officer but the information came to us second hand.

John

I was very sad to read Rick's posting and John's confirmation. I have very strong views about a minority of twitchers and photographers who have absolutely no regard for the welfare of their "target" as long as they can tick it or get a good shot. I suspect that they would have no idea that male Corn Buntings can be polygamous and the nests can be fairly close together. It is instances like this that endorse my stance at not releasing details of "rare" birds until I am totally satisfied that their welfare will not be compromised.
