The Lincolnshire Bird Club

The advance favourable weather forecast enabled the Mid Lincs Ringing Group to organise ringing at three of their sites in the Donna Nook/Saltfleet area. This resulted in over 550 birds ringed over the period but, surprisingly, no controls (birds ringed elsewhere). The undoubted highlight was the unprecedented number of Chiffchaffs which resulted in over 60 being ringed. About 20% had wing lengths in excess of 65mm indicating they were probably ssp P. collybita albietinus. Also ringed were 170 Goldcrests and 20 Siskins together with good numbers of other predictable drift migrants such as Redwings, Song Thrushes, Blackcaps and Robins. A late Lesser Whitethroat on Monday was interesting as was the Pallas's Warbler which made James' day and helped fill space on the Photo Album!

Not getting to the coast until 11th, I missed most of the action ? (and the large Chiffchaffs) but noted that there were also some 'large' Golcrests around. One male yesterday at Seacroft had a wing length of 61mm - some 4mm larger than I've recorded before and 3mm longer than the maximum in 'Svensson'.
