Two tree sparrows, males, in the garden today, after 1 on monday. First garden sighting in 25 years.

Peregrine over monday.

I think that there is a general increase in Tree Sparrow in Lincolnshire - which is good news!

(Also, I think you will find you can't actually sex Tree Sparrows, they all look the same?)

Tree sparrows still visiting daily -maximum 3

Red kite over garden 12.30 today. Persued by various members of the local crow family.

There is definitely an increase at one of my ringing sites at Kirmond le Mire. Between 2003 and 2009 I ringed 616 Tree Sparrows - already this year I have ringed 198! At another site at Stenigot I have ringed a further 155 this year and the garden owner tells me he sees far more unringed Tree Sparrows than ringed!

Maximum number now 14 - overall seed consumption now up 300%!!
Have still not been able to identify where they appear from.

The four ringing controls (birds ringed elsewhere) I have received in the last three years have all been from around Spurn. Tree Sparrows are regularly recorded moving along the coast in significant numbers and turning up where they are not normally resident. I don't believe that they are as sedentary as we as I used to think so yours could have come some distance.
