I understand the Cetti"s warbler last recorded at MSQ,will be in the report as a presumed female.
Cetti"s Warblers as far as i know are sexes and ages alike,the bird was calling,males tend to sing mostly in the birding world.
So therefore im mystified by the statement made on this forum,now deleted i notice.
The only info i can find of a difference in male and female comes from the BTO,
Biometrics
wing length;
Male 63.2+1.9 61-66mm n=193
Female:56.5=1.9 54-60mm n=219=also weight,male is larger according to bto/Regards,
Roger Hebb.

The sexes of Cetti's are easily distinguished in the hand on size, and with lots of experience and a good view it is possible in the field.........but how often does one get a good view of a Cetti's in the field !?!

I think it is only the male that does the really loud 'explosive' song. In my experience males are less skulking than females, who occasionally sing at a lower volume, but generally just produce single, often repeated, notes.

If we get a couple of mild winters, I think we may get Cetti's established in Lincs.
