While birding at Far-Ings on Monday,i had a very well marked Treecreeper with a tit-flock along the path between Ness hide and the small causeway towards the Target lake. The bird struck me as being more well marked than normal, especially the supercilium, which was very well marked, white and flared at the ear-coverts.I just wondered whether any other birders have encountered this race,or possibles, lately,or in recent autumn/winter periods.

Regards

Steve.

Perhaps a question for the ringers Steve - I dont now if there is any updated info on the Scandi race over Svensson's book which does not provide much id criteria for 'macrodactyla' and this was pre DNA !

Hi Steve,
If you can get a look at Svensson's "Identification Guide to European Passerines" it gives descriptions of the four Ssp that can occur in Europe - familiarius, macrodactyla, britannica and corsa. Your description suggests familiaris or britannica.

Thanks Stuart, don't have the Svensson book, the bird was certainly more striking than our usual Treecreepers.
