Pretty quiet as all fresh water bodies mostly frozen.
Pink-footed Goose - c800 these birds have been feeding on potato tailings just across the river for more than 2 weeks now.
Goosander - 2 flocks this afternoon of 26 and 46 birds respectively. The 26 flew S along the waters edge whilst the 46 flew directly inland over Mill Hill.
Iceland Gull - 1 1st w.
Yellow-legged Herring Gull - 1 ad
Shorelark - 11 This flock has now been around for at least 2 weeks
Snow Bunting - 35
Skua sp - looked a bit small for Pom?
Lapland bunting 2
Lapwing - small flocks in off the sea all pm
Herring Gull - 1000+ on the beach mostly argenteus but some argentatus and at least 2 darker backed birds grading towards LBB gull - interesting.
Barnacle Goose - 2
Plus various ducks on the sea - Eider,Wigeon,Scoter, RB Merg etc

with Rob Watson and John Shaugnessy

Another 5 Goosander went south along the tide line late pm. 4M and 1F.
Only about 300 Common Scoter seen offshore with 90% being 1W/Female types

That is a massive count of goosander for Gib !! (previous record was 20 )- would be interesting to know if these are birds moving from frozen waterbodies inland or whether they are new in from Europe.

Interestingly the flock of 46 Goosander contained only 1 ad male whilst the flock of 26 had 4 ad males.

Even quieter today - the Shorelarks and Snow Buntings still present.
Also 2 Taiga Bean Geese and 32 Barnacle Geese with the Pinkfeet flock.
