If it winds anyone up who go to Chambers to see the introduced species,then they are hypocrites!.Some people criticise this guy for releasing species and then go and visit Chambers annually to photograph Marsh Frit's??.This guy is obviously very knowledgable and perhaps if he had been consulted about the release of Chequered Skipper at Chamber's years ago,then they may be there still now?.

I see where you're coming from, Steve. As a former Education Ranger for 10 years at Chambers Farm Wood, all sorts of "out of place" butterfly species kept appearing ie Marsh Fritillary, Marbled White, Wood White, Black Hairstreak etc. etc. Sadly, the English Nature (as it was then) backed Chequered Skipper re-introduction failed for a variety of reasons. I think one important fact is overlooked - the Bardney Limewoods are a National Nature Reserve and governed by strict legislation. This failed to prevent such unauthorised introductions and made Chambers more like a Butterfly Park - you don't know what's going to turn up next! May be some lessons can be learned from the obvious success of the Marsh Fritillaries but don't lose sight of the fact that they were unauthorised whether you like it or not.

I agree Stuart,if iam right,Chambers was the last site in Lincolnshire were Chequered Skipper bred and thus was chosen for the re-introduction and if my memory serves me correctly,the right conditions for successfull breeding where not created properly,so the re-introduction failed,what a shame, it would have secured the species at one of it's former sites and also saved butterfly enthusiasts far and wide a long journey to North west Scotland.With all the excellent woodland management work that is on going at Chamber's,surely there will be scope to re-introduce some of the former species there officially in the future,as has happened at other sites around the country.It would be great to see some of the Fritillaries regularly breeding again in the county and with all the abundance of violets in Chambers i bet it happens there first!.

All well and good in an ideal world. Would be great to have all these re-introduced in the right way but it would never happen, as Steve stated lots say they are against these releases but all seem to go and see them and Photograph them. Does it really matter if the species is doing well and not interfering with anything else.

In my opinion this Man does a great job in the breeding of lots of Butterflies, he gives several organisations help with Butterfly releases ?...

Regarding releases, one of my most vivid and enjoyable butterfly memories of a few years ago was of visiting Carr Vale Nature Reserve near Bolsover, Derbyshire where some 10-15 Large Coppers had been flitting around for a few days much to the delight of many visiting butterfliers.
