While watching the cricket this morning I noted at least 37 redwings in a neighbours tree and several coal tits on my feeders

great spotted woodpecker and four redpoll. The GSW was only the third I have seen in the eighteen years we have lived here

Feb 12th:

Good to see a party of Long-tailed Tit visit the back garden saw seven in total. Also had one Coalie and at least 25 Common Gull parading up above.

Feb 13th:

Had a record total of 26 Chaffinch today and I tried my best to make one a Brambling but couldn't.
Good numbers of birds today with at least 40 House Sparrow in front garden tackling the peanuts, fat balls and songbird seeds. Main problem at moment is a dozen feral pigeons coming if I had the choice I'd sooner have a Grey Squirrel any day

Had a female Sparrowhawk visit regularly 2-3 times a week for the last 4 years but no male to be seen. Yesterday a male did a high speed fly through 4 times in one hour. Not aware whether there were any victims but no feathers about so perhaps not.

Could be he was looking for another type of bird ie the female

Feb 20th:
Spotted one Coalie on the feeders and below it a Wood Mouse which for a change was alive.

Feb 21st:
Lesser Redpoll - 1 and the Coalie. It also appeared the following day.

Feb 23rd:

Had 29 Goldfinch plus the usual.

Feb 26th:
Had a Sprawk patrolling just across the road from me at 17.30.

Feb 27th:
Just as I had drawn the kitchen curtain a cracking male Siskin landed on the niger feeder, thankfully the Goldfinches weren't present, it stayed about thirty mins. I filmed it for about four minutes and took about a dozen pics, all came out very clearly. Without consulting my logbook I think that's the first Siskin for almost two years, the previous time I had a pair visit.

20 plus Tree Sparrows regularly on feeders is my best plus G S Pecker & S/Hawk of course.

Wish I had a single Tree Sparrow let alone twenty odd, but I cannot complain.

Yesterday afternoon while watching the Police chopper above house a Common Buzzard came into my view, watched a couple of minutes in case it was the sprawk but could clearly see the underneath of it's wings. Wouldn't it have been great if it had been the RLB from Ferriby coming to say Hi and thanks for finding it last November.

Had a pair of Stock dove the last few days as well as the collars and woodies. Much more shy and timid than we get used to with doves.

Busier than normal day in my garden today - birds throughout the day, normally middle of the day is quiet for us.

Goldfinch - 12, most I have counted in my garden at once
Chaffinch - 12, again most I have counted
Siskin - 6 - 3 pairs, again most I have witnessed

Plua all the usual garden visiting suspects

Good number of Siskins, well done.

In regard to your total of Goldfinch, have you got a twenty port Droll Yankee niger feeder, if not and you can afford one, get one? The most i have had on mine is eighteen at one go and what a sight it is.

The garden has been a little quiet this past week! Instead of putting out black sunflower seeds tried a maize etc and the only birds interested were the feral pigeons etc and the Spugs, so emptied the feeders and put the regular seed back.

From March 3rd the Coal Tit has been here every day sometimes had two of them, also the Great and Blue Tits here most days, on the 3rd had two LT Tits on the nuts.

It's interesting reading what other members are getting.

The commonest bird in my garden is the tree sparrow, they are feeding on everything, i have seen them inspecting the nest boxes too, i have seen a siskin and a yellowhammer come down, pair of coal tits, chaffinches, i have had fieldfares come down when i put apples on the ground.
My neighbour called me over yesterday to show me a sparrowhawk sitting on his privet hedge, it was back there again today, got to within 20 feet and it just sat there uninterested in me, i wanted to go closer but i was in my neighbours garden and i did not want to intrude on his property without permission, but i got photos of it. Now is the time when woodcocks will be flying over, should see them soon.

A growing number of long tails on the half coconut feeder and the female Reed Bunting is still regularly feeding alongside the Chaffinches and Goldfinches. Often find feeders lying empty on the ground with no idea of the reason, despite them being on substantial hooks. However witnessed and photographed a Rook picking up the feeder by it's hanging loop and dropping it on the ground. I stopped feeding on tables and the ground to avoid spending a fortune fattening up the Rooks and Woodies but the Rooks are obviously too smart for me!

On Tuesday [ 8th] saw two LTTs on the nut & fat ball feeders, two Coal Tits on the nut feeders, one Great Tit and two Blue Tits on the sunflower and nuts.
Wednesday saw the two LTTs again. Thursday same again plus a Wren checking out the old bird table. Friday spotted the two Coal Tit again. Saturday same again plus one Blue Tit and two Great Tit. Today saw two Great Tit, two Blue Tit and one Coal Tit.

Still getting 40+ House Sparrow in the front garden. In the back getting the damn feral pigeons [11], Wood Pigeon [4], Greenfinch [12+] look fantasic in the sun, Goldfinch [15], C Dove [4], a pair of Blackies, pair of Dunnock, 22+ Starling, 14+ Chaffinch, with the Common Gulls [17+] overhead.

Last Wednesday I heard a commotion in street and two Rooks were taking on eleven Common Gull, not sure who won but the Rooks left first, maybe they were carrying the gulls dinner away.

Hope the LTT's become regulars for you, only ever seen 1 in my garden on a feeder.

In regard to the 20 port Droll Yankee niger feeder I will certainly look into getting one I think, thanks for the tip
