Has anyone treated themselves to Adrian Pitches and Tim Cleeves excellent, recently published new book "Birds new to Britain 1980-2004"? I would recommend it to any ardent twitcher - bringing back memories of "once in a lifetime birds", as well as describing birds you might dream of seeing one day. I was unable to get a copy today at Titchwell RSPB. They had sold out of copies in the morning, but was able to purchase a copy at nearby "In Focus", and also for light reading Adrian Riley's "Arrivals and Rivals: a birding oddity" - a year of competitive twitching. The latter costs £7.99, the former £35, but worth it if you are into twitching, or keen on seeing rare birds. These days I am very selective about what rare birds I go for, and would only go a long distance if it was a new bird and there was a good chance of seeing it. Ninety per cent of my birding is in my local area, which can still be very rewarding finding your own birds of interest. Cheers Richard
