I received an email today from Peter Cawdell, Chairman, Lincs Branch of Butterfly Conservation :

" Finally this afternoon ( 23/04 ) and after 4 attempts in the last 10 days, had my first Green Hairstreak sightings at Greetwell Hollow. At least 2 males typically circling together and flying rapidly over bushes in the usual area with one landing close to me on Elder. I couldn't find any more anywhere else in the reserve. How they survive in such small numbers baffles me."

That sounds good news for Greetwell, Brian, even if in not quite the numbers Ed is having at Gib Pt. :)

Freddie.

Depends on what he means by the usual area!! , I have had them anywhere from near the entrance to as far as the bottom of both old quarries. Probably take a walk this afternoon if it dries off enough underfoot!

Brian.

Brian,
After our previous chats about GH at Greetwell , I was also puzzled by Peter's reference to ' the usual area'.
Anyway, good luck if you go later today.

Regards,

Freddy

Hi Brian,

It flew across the path just north of the bridge over the stream. Good view but fleeting. Have spent hours on the reserve since we met and that was first and only view.
