After an unsuccessful early morning trip to Alkborough Flats and finding GPC, SR & RH there before me and an unsuccessful search with Phil Espin we were walking back towards the carpark from the river when Phil's pager told us that the bird had arrived across the river at Blacktoft

As it was a lifer for me I decided on a dash down the river to Keadby Bridge and then back up the other side. 45 minutes later I arrived to be told that the bird was showing well at Ousefleet screen. Another fairly long walk following a steady stream of people down the bank. When I arrived at the screen I was told the bird was out of view. There was about a dozen people crammed into a small area making viewing difficult for those at the back. Eventually the bird reappeared giving good views. You just had to be patient in this limited viewing area.

Nice bird - shame I didn't get up an hour earlier and get a view of it in Lincs

what about the little egret chris, this species is ever growing its range i counted 11 birds where just 2 or 3 years ago there were none and uncommon.

Had an excellent 3 hours around the reserve today,seeing the cracking Marsh Sand for the second time this week,with the following being seen also:

2 2nd cal. yr. Spoonbill
9 Little Egret
7 Green Sandpiper
2 Wood Sandpiper
1 Common Sandpiper
100 Black-tailed Godwit
11 Spotted Redshank
2 Greenshank
7 Marsh Harrier(Incl. 4 in one bush)
1 Garganey

Very little change today with the Marsh Sand showing well. Although missed the Garganey, if it was still there.

Talking to the reserve manager seems they were really busy as he had advertised a special family day to see the Marsh Harriers, then the Marsh Sand arrives. Cars were even parking on the grass verge on the road outside with all hides full.
