The BOU Records Committee TSC (Taxonomic Sub-committee) have just published the 'Taxonomic recommendations for British Birds: seventh report'.

I wont go through all the changes (many of which involve changes to scientific names) but British listers might be interested to know that Siberian Stonechat Saxicola maurus has at long last been split from (Common or Eurasian) Stonechat S rubicola and that Hudsonian Whimbrel Numenius hudsonius has been split from Whimbrel N phaeopus.

At an international level world listers might like to know that Snowy Plover Charadrius nivosus has been split from Kentish Plover C alexandrinus following on from a recent decision by the AOU (52nd supplement) and the North American form of ‘Sandwich Tern’ has been split and will be known as Cabot’s Tern Sterna acuflavida.

A few armchair ticks there for some of us!

Cheers

Grahame
