Is it just me or are there a lot of Siskins arriving this autumn? They appear to be everywhere I go at the moment and comprise mainly juvenile birds - many still in juvenile plumage, indicating that they have had a really good breeding season. Spurn has reported high numbers there and two weeks or so earlier than usual. Could be a very good winter for this species. Other reports suggest that these are northern British birds as movements along the coast have not been replicated yet on the northern islands.

Also hearing seeing Siskins all over the place since last week, some joining up with flocks of Goldfinches and Linnets on arable weed crops.

I've had Siskins in and over my garden everyday for at least the last week. And whilst cycling about am hearing them everywhere.

On Sunday afternoon 11 Sept. individual siskin calls all over Ostlers Plantation / Kirkby Moor area, though no apparent flocks.
