The RSPB would like to hear from any Lincolnshire birders interested in taking part in the Volunteer & Farmer Alliance (V&FA) during 2012. This project has been very successful in helping foster a positive working relationship with farmers in the county and the surveys have identified important populations of some of our scarcer and most rapidly declining farmland species, such as turtle doves and corn buntings. The survey results have enabled the provision of targeted conservation management advice and encouraged and enabled farmers to enter their land into both tiers of the government's Environmental Stewardship Schemes, which are designed to help farmland bird populations.
As well as contributing towards farmland bird conservation V&FA is also a great opportunity to get out onto private farmland in your area and see something different. The surveys require a flexible commitment of three to four early morning visits of about four hours between April and July. It is a very popular scheme with farmers and we have vacancies throughout Lincolnshire, if you are interested in being involved please contact Emily Field

John
