I think if you remove all the pheasant food from the wild bird's food chain it would be a harsh reminder that we have stripped the land of natural food.

Thanks to everyone who voted, it's been interesting. 76% of birders voted that the cull should be stopped. It would be good if the government took notice of us, but it's very unlikely they will, At least they are only wasting £200,000 to try and finish off the rest of the ducks.
I reckon it would be best if nobody mentioned the whereabouts of the Ruddy Ducks and then the government could save face and say the cull has been a success and quietly stop it.
Even if they get the population down to single figures, with the few pairs surviving and movements from survivors in Europe and who knows immigrants from America and Iceland with luck we should again have a healthy population in 30 or 40 years time and further on into the future a new hybrid White-headed Duck/Ruddy Duck species could be created giving us a new tick :D

Are you suggesting we should use it to feed to the Ruddy Ducks?

Err, no.

It was simply to illustrate that there a lot of things that most of us do every day that are a lot more damaging to the environment than the killing of English Ruddy Ducks.

My reply was slightly tongue in cheek, however I'm sure the Ruddy Ducks wouldn't agree with you.

Hi Terence.
Its only one 'R' in Derick thanks and apologies for the long delay in replying. Big PC problems, now resolved.

Which comment was tripe then? That there are only 120 birds left. or Yes! They should be exterminated.

they should be left alone, natural selection, let nature take its course. let the french, spanish and generally the continent control them if they want to, they are more likely to enjoyed the procedure and take their minds off honey buzzards, turtle doves and the like, terry whalin :D

For those members who now wish to put the Ruddy Duck saga to bed and yet (surprisingly) still have some reserve mental energy to spend on the subject, an interesting full-page article by Stephen Moss, which may be an appropriate 'final word', appears in today's "Daily Mail"......just google : "A Ruddy Outrage !"

Hi Freddy.
I wonder. Does Sir Peter Scott get much of a mention (The Blame) for interfering with Terry's natural selection.
