My garden is on very sandy soil and ants have been particularly active this year. I mowed the lawns this morning and took the top off a dozen or so small earth patches created by ants. The moment I finished a flock of 30 Starlings descended on the patches and ate the eggs/ants that had been disturbed. There were six adults and the remainder were juveniles. I've regularly seen Starlings hawking flying ants but this is the first time I've seen them predating them on the ground.
