Cor, you make it sound great Dave, I really hope you are right. I guess we will know pretty soon if they are going to knock the hole through to the sea this winter. I have heard so many things about this whole project, it would be nice if we were up to our... in waders and terns next year. Bet the golden plover will like it.

Sorry Dave, I'm well known for speed reading and missing chunks out. Did you get this from the horse's mouth, is it 100%?

The information I have gleaned from the EA engineers is the new sea defence banks have to be allowed to stabilise and get a good cover of grass established prior to any breach to prevent erosion. They also want to avoid the big spring tides testing the banks too early in April/May, so they will wait to do the breach until after that. So at the moment, late May/June 2013 looks favourite for the breakthrough. That's about as 100% as I think we are going to get!

Sounds sensible enough, roll on next autumn then eh.

Just returned from a computerless 10 days in Antrim and have waded (pardon the pun) throught the thread! I think Dave Bromwich has tried his hardest to present a balanced, informed and professional response to the variety of difficult questions. He has access to far more information than most so please give him credit rather than having a go!

I think the general aim from this thread was to find out more information on future management of wildlife habitat planned for this substantial area at Donna Nook. There had been a general lack of information on the subject with initially nothing forthcoming into the public domain from potential conservation management bodies such as the Lincs Trust, Natural England or the RSPB. The continuation of this thread has since resulted in both John and Dave shedding further light on the subject which I'm sure most of us with an interest in the area greatly appreciate. I hope John, Dave or others involved will continue to share any future news/developments for the site via the forum.

3 shallow scrapes have been dug on the tidal side of the new bank near the site office worksbase,
these are visible from the dunes at Donna Nook..
The new bund alongside Saltfleet haven has been built and 2 large ponds are being formed on the soil take area, these to comply withe the landowners design wishes ( fairly deep ), but should have some bird interest these will be visible from the
high new bund when the site is reopened to the public later this year..

I heard that they are having a re-think about breaching the sea bank. They might just open the gate to let the sea in. Anyone else heard that?
