I went to Occupation Lane, Walesby this afternoon - a site where I have been ringing for over 30 years. I caught a tit flock and extracting the Goldcrests I was astonished to find a cracking first year male Firecrest - very much a new bird for the site. I have only ringed one away from the coast before and that was just up the road at the ponds at Walesby Moor in April 1986. Full list for the day:
Wren 1 Robin 1 Blackbird 2 Goldcrest 14 Long tailed-tit 14 Coal Tit 2 Blue Tit 1 Great Tit 1 Treecreeper 2 Bullfinch 6. A total of 45 birds - a cracking afternoon!
