We have enjoyed the Thrushes' etc., invasion of our Lincs coast this week with birds arriving in their thousands ("the lucky survivors"), but there has been a more distressing side to the mass migrations.
The RSPB reports " An appalling combination of fog and winds around England's coast this week have created terrible conditions for migrating birds, with some fishermen reporting the deaths of many exhausted and disorientated 'garden' birds which plunged into the sea around their vessels. One skipper estimated 500 birds drowned in just his 300-yard sphere."
