I gather that Alex is now back in the UK and is being looked after at Boston Pilgrim Hospital.
John Scarbro', his birding pal, has been to visit but Alex and commented as follows -

'He is still on the ventilator but they have stopped his sedation.
He is not conscious yet but was starting to come round in the hour I was there'.

Apparently Alex has also contracted pneumonia whilst in hospital in Brazil.

Thanks for the update - I do voluntary work for Pilgrim Hospital Radio and will, if possible, go and see him on Thursday.

What a rough time Alex has had but thankfully he is home now. Obviously with such a serious condition recovery will be slow. I am sure that John will pass on the good wishes of his many friends for a successful recovery.
Best wishes again
