A summary of sightings from this weekend:
5 January - Hartsholme Park
Goosander - 4(2m + 2f) along channel of the lake showing very well am. 6 (4m + 2f) flew over of the lake from the general direction of Boultham Mere at dusk heading to (presumably roost) at Swanholme Lakes.
Grey Heron - 7 attendant at nests on the island.
Little Egret - 5 in the roost but left before dark so would guess more may have arrived.
6 January - Swanholme Lakes Difficult to assess true numbers of wildfowl present in misty conditions.
Red-crested Pochard - drake plus attendant hybrid female Goosander - 9 (6m + 3f) Tufted Duck - 71 Shoveler - 10 Mallard - 17 Gadwall - 59 Wigeon - 109 Coot - 76 Mute Swan - 6 Canada Goose - 2 Cormorant - 2 Great crested Grebe - 3 Little Grebe - 1 Black headed Gull - 215 Common Gull - 41 Great black backed Gull - 5 Herring Gull - 3 Redpoll - several small roving flocks, max. 14 Long-tailed Tit - 9
