Great start to the day with a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in Hartsholme Park. Allerted by its call it was then watched well for around 10 mins in a small area - my first in the park for some years.

Redshank - 4
Curlew - 14

All 3 resident species of British Woodpecker showing really well in Hartsholme Park this morning (24/02).

The male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was giving great views (in almost exactly the same place and at the same time as yesterday) generally feeding at low level in Alders and wet woodland in the area around the entrance to the 1st Cut Through. Also:

Green Woodpecker - 2 calling and showing well around the 'Beech Wood' and Sports Field
Great Spotted Woodpecker - 3 drumming and showing well around the park.
Jay - 1
Treecreeper - 1
Goldcrest - 1
Goosander - pair showing extremely well along 'the channel'.

Katherine - Hartsholme Park has historically been a place to try and see LSW but in line with the general trend has become very scarce and this is the first bird I have seen in several years (although I am aware of others having seen them, although I do not believe annually). However, on the basis of this weekends sightings it looks as though this bird may at least hang around for a little while.
