25 yellow wagtails, 3 white wags from main drive to sea bank go right, male Ruddy duck trying to make it with a fleeing female goldeye on reed bed

Was there too this afternoon. At least 3 Little Ringed Plovers seen from the 360 Hide, about 10 Swallows flying over scrapes and 5 Yellowhammers on feeders. Wheatear reported but failed to see it this afternoon.

I arrived just as you were returning to the car-park, Katharine.

Like John, highlight for me this evening were the Yellow Wagtail. Counted 22 feeding just below the sea-bank about 19:30. Also had three White Wagtail, but from 360 Hide, and a single Pied Wagtail at back of reedbed.

Were you the one walking away from me in the car park? Was about to say hello and ask if you'd seen any good birds! Still, nice to add Yellow Wagtail to my Year List. Now, for Chiffchaff, Wheatear, Willow warbler and Ring Ouzel...... harder for me since I am hearing-impaired and don't hear a lot of birdsong!

Yep. That was me. It's always my sort of ritual to walk down to the bottom of the car-park and scan the hedgerow when I arrive.

If you are looking for Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers local to Boston you should try Westgate Wood early evening time, particularly if it is balmy. If you take the stoned path along the perimeter of the wood you should get good views without the need to listen intently as the birds tend to fly-catch in the open and drop down into the smaller bushes in the shallow ditch on the other side.

For best views, I would probably park up at the Old Hammond Beck Bank Road end and wander about 100 yards down the path. You should get the odd Whitethroat pop up as well. The one I saw yesterday was in the exact same low bush where they could be found all summer last year.
