Anyone have further information?

Well no one has informed the county bird recorder (south) as yet.

Of course if they did inform him and asked for confidentiality/anonymity that's exactly what they'd get.

John

According to my memory if this one is authenticated, that's 3 in the past 22 years in the county - they're getting quite common!!!

Oddly there were very few at Pelee this spring in contrast to White-crowned Sparrows --WTS maybe went through earlier but its a long sea crossing on a slow boat to Boston Docks

I live in Spalding and I have heard nothing at all about this bird.

If it were to arrive in my garden and I wanted to arrange some sort of public viewing area, who would I get in contact with, and what would happen?

PS - it's NOT in my garden but I am keeping a wildly optimistic eye out!

H Katherine, the information in the appended webpage might be of some use on what to expect for dealing with a significant twitch in a suburban area, at least I presume the folk that kept quiet about the Noar Hill WTS had read this:

There's more info on this WTS on Birdforum........

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=258269

There's a link to a Twitter account from someone called 'Spadgebirder' including a photo apparently, BUT its a locked account so unless you follow 'Spadge' (which I don't before anyone asks!) then the info is not viewable.

The county bird recorder (south) might like to know that 'Spadgebirder' according to his Twitter page is an RSPB LG webmaster and a SL RSPB Committee Member.

Again according to Birdforum still there today.

Regards

Grahame

I suggest the county bird recorder. In this case he also works for the RSPB, has experience in managing such situations and has written rare bird contingency plans!

Thanks Grahame, I've spoken with one of the two local birders who have been liaising with the finder, clearly he doesn't want to put the news out, so that's that as it stands.

John

some interesting photos on your link John -- it says members photos -- members of what? sorry for being dim on this one -- are all the photos in that link by the same person ie someone who has had info on the Caper site etc - maybe a location clue in the snowy garden photo -- detective work from google earth should tie it down in a few seconds if TV crime dramas are to be believed -- I obviously need a good sleep and a new hobby

WTS's are notably frequent feeder birds in the Nearctic but you need to keep them well stocked through May to get a visit -- my wife is running ours down for summer which is clearly why we don't have any nearctic sparrows in our garden

Spadgebirder posts regularly on lincsbirders.org.uk. Which is interesting as he has a thread there Spadge's Garden Birds, that the WTS not mentioned.
