Got a phone call from Dean Nicholson late this afternoon to say there had been a report on the Bird info services of a Great Skua at Millennium Green this morning, one of the North Hykeham Pits.

Re-found the Skua on Teal Lake at Whisby Nature Reserve this evening, and still present when we left. No doubt there will be some photos soon in the album.

A good record for the Lincoln area and in any case a first for the Whisby NR/ North Hykeham Pits recording area.

Cheers

Grahame with Dean Nicholson, Andy Sims, Dave Jenkins and Chris Grimshaw

Funnily enough we did consider the southern hemisphere skua taxa! However none of us have any/much experience in southern skuas and it just seemed so unrealistic a thought that we soon dropped that idea.

Yellow-nosed errrr unrealistic -- but it does look to have good hackles and primary moult presumably makes it a sub-adult; always worth getting some good images though you never know what information may crop up in future; Recent South Polar Skua ID article in BB
