The Lincolnshire Bird Club

We normally have a couple of pairs of Spotted Flys nest at Hill Holt Wood each year but this year i was beginning to think they had deserted us.
Then yesterday i noticed a bird flit out from under the eaves of one of our straw bale buildings; further investigation revealed a nest with 4 eggs and a Spotted Fly eager to get back onto these. The nest is right next to a path along the building so i roped it off to prevent human traffic and allow them to settle for long periods, fingers crossed.
Pleased to have them back.

Last year there were 3 pairs of Spotted Flycatcher in Dunsby village. This year there appears to be just the one pair and, like yours Oliver, they are also sitting on 4 eggs. Same site as for the past 3 years.

Well so far at RAF Waddington this year No Sfly's so far.
I am on nights Sat&Sun so hopefully be able to have my 3rd search.
2012 we only found a single bird after 7 searches on quiet weekends and evenings, compared to between 7&9 prs in 2011.
In the past, we have found no birds before the airshow but in the week afterwards they seem to appear in the usual haunts and I am on days the weekend after the airshow, so hopefully form will win out.

Brian, I have been informed by a friend of mine at Waddington that a pair of Spot Fly are nesting not far from the entrance to the Sgts Mess, the male can be seen perched on the fence by the mess car park. Apparently they were in the same place last year at the same time.

Pair feeding young in a porch on Victoria Ave., Woodhall Spa, reported to me 27/06/13. Apparently 3rd consecutive year at this site.

Two separate individuals "flycatching" at Hubbards Hills, Louth this afternoon plus 2 Song Thrushes, 1 Mistle Thrush and a very vocal Nuthatch. On the way home a Corn Bunting was sat on telegraph wires at Hainton near the old Clematis Nurseries on the South Willingham Road.

Just discovered another Spotted Flycatcher's nest 20 yards from the first one, how lucky are we!
The first one now has five eggs in it by the way.

I have been informed of a second pair of Spot Flys at RAF Waddington.

Brian, for your info, they are hanging around the 25 meter firing range opposite the OPS building. Also a Green Woodpecker seen behind the main Guard Room.

4 chicks now being fed in the first nest at Hill Holt Wood.

Caught up with the elusive pr at the 25m range today with a 3rd flying about poss a juv. Had lots of juv starling about which were not letting anything settle. Quite a few juv gt tit/linn/gold & green finch as well.

3 chicks successfully fledged yesterday. one egg didn't hatch and one chick fell out of the nest one night and perished when only a couple of days old.
All in all pretty good i think.

A pair of Spotted Flycatchers were feeding young in Bulby Wood (private wood near Hawthorpe, not far from Callan's Lane and Temple Wood) last weekend (12th July).

Am pleased to report that Spotted Flycatchers have returned to Grasby village for the first time in several years. A pair are currently feeding their second brood. I also happened upon 2 adults feeding at least 2 juvs at Nth Kelsey Moor this evening.
