One of the most misidentified of small raptors, so any further news of a bird reported going towards Goulceby today ??

Collins Bird Guide:
Booted Eagle...Small eagle, of similar size and shape to a buzzard
It wouldn't be the first time they've been confused

phil I have seen perhaps between 20/25 birds over the years both light and dark morph, that by no means makes me an expert far from it but the species reminded me more of a black kite than buzzard hooked carpels when gliding, graceful, wings more parallel almost raven like, its a minefield and I am sure other people will disagree with me. in the end be it light or dark morph I usually try to get the so called landing lights which are difficult from directly below or a real pointed head profile, a minefield, good luck and best wishes hope this helps :D :D

The bird in question was seen by three observers. It headed south towards Goulceby and was seen being mobbed by a Hobby. There are three record photographs of the bird which may prove identifiable when downloaded.

How can anyone ID that as a Booted eagle. You probably can't ID as a Buzzard

16.8.13.012 'Goshawk' is a cropped and retouched version of 16.8.13.012 'Booted Eagle'. Although making a firm identification is probably impossible I see nothing that doesn't suggest Common Buzzard.

Still waiting for an image of Goshawk from Lincs or a recent Booted Eagle from anywhere in the UK....
