Steve may not be joking but in my view suppression has not been a particularly big issue in Lincs over the last 40 years I've been birding here. Some incidents are down to cock up rather than conspiracy and some are down to the vagaries of character of those who found the bird. In birding as in life, it takes all sorts.

Any incidents in Lincs pale into insignificance next to the Tengmalms Owl at Spurn in 1983.

Glad to see that Anthony is so passionate about his birds and thanks very much to him for locating the Red breasted Fly at Pyes the other day. Hopefully another Rustic Bunting will come along eventually.y

I don't believe it. The second I hit the submit button on this I got a tweet from Birdguides saying the rustic was seen behind the flagpole at Pyes at 13.55

I think that this has been a great experience for the up and coming birdwatcher. Young blood is hard to find but this episode has thrust the new boy right into the heart of forum conflict. Well done Anthony for holding your own, top grumbling beyond your years.

If you can be positive about this situation you can at least be grateful that the wayward bunting will have had a little time to fatten up without being chased around. This may keep it alive long enough for more people to travel and find it.

phil that was me at 13.45hrs had a sighting of a bunting that was not a r/bunt but a very brief view only about 90% sure, bunts can be very difficult and sculking. it was a lot brighter bird heavy bright facial marking very pale under and peaked little crest, didn't see wing marking not enough time and it didn't call. it was flushed with 7 reed bunts by a kestrel where the white flagpole is on the buckthorn on the landward side off the flagpole, I was on the path that runs through the bushes, told gpc some 30 mins later, anyway I have done my bit. owing to the fact I am only 90% sure I will not submit an official record. I have seen 3 birds before but this is just a heads up it might still be in the area so it is doubtful it will depart until better weather. lets see if I get abused for submitting an unsure sighting, heads you lose tails you lose. my info is to give you a chance, if I am wrong then I tried.
also 2 firecrests
3 goldcrest
7 robin
wheatear
no sign of r/b fly good luck folks :D

terry whalin :D

Just for the record Phil.
The RB news originated from a report to 'Birdinformation' and Not Birdguides.

Only met Anthony for first time yesterday but spent some time talking about young birders and birding in general.
He seems to be a very pleasant and well grounded young man.
I think he will survive and continue to post many more sightings.

I don't subscribe to bird information, just Birdguides, I did not ask them about the provenance of their information. I went down and had a look but nothing doing, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, no complaints from me.

gpc said he had been in that general area all morning with no joy and I had been through there on 2 previous occasions that day but that buckthorn area is extremely dense and difficult to bird as a said only 90% :)

Just wondered. Does anyone know if the Rustic Bunting pic's were taken near the Flagpole.
Or in the hawthorns on the other side of the river?

I have no intention of taking sides or stating who is right or wrong. However, I feel it is time to lock this topic.

Hopefully you will agree this is the correct decision.

If you would like to discuss this, please contact me directly,

Best wishes Andrew

(although I have now let Anthony add a last post...)

Young birders are very hard to come by for many reasons which I will not delve into. But the amount of Young lads/ladies coming through the birding system is quite alarming!

I believe Derick mentioned something about Next Generation Birders. I'm proud to be apart of this group of young men and women aged 12-25. It's all about inspiring the crop to follow and in all honesty there aren't many that are inspired. So with the help of NGB we can (as the Olympics would say) Inspire a generation! It's in it's early stages so we would really appreciate people having a look at our Twitter page. https://twitter.com/NGBirders (there's a great cartoon a member does every week of some of the rare birds that have hit our shores it's well worth, a look a very talented young man!) I believe a Website is going to made as well.

I may have missed this bird but I will just go find one of my own.
