Hi Phil.
Sorry for delay in replying, have just got home, have been birding in Linc's & dipping Pallas's Warbler.

If you read my post I didn't say Twitter was best and I can't compare it to your Birdguides app. as I've never used It.
All I know is sending & receiving bird news via Twitter is easy to use, quick, versatile, reliable, instant (or should be) and its free.
I bet Birdguides isn't all of the above?

Just for the record I didn't set up the LBC Twitter feed, neither did I want or have asked for someone at LBC to sit there to instantly put forum messages on Twitter. There's no need to do that!
I have though asked that messages go direct and don't get re-tweeted, as that just defeats the object of Twitter.
(ie: Instant messaging)

I understand there may be worries that LBC would have no control of instant messages. Though you can block anyone who may undesirable.
For complete control of users an LBC Twitter feed could be locked and users required to identify themselves prior to accepting them as followers of LBC.

To answer your final point about older phones & text messages. I'm sure your aware Phil that with Twitter you can also send a text message with the bird news direct to a phone as well as a Twitter message. So everyone can use and benefit from using Twitter even without a smart phone.

I feel that using Twitter for sending & receiving instant bird news, can & will complement the LBC forum given a chance. It will also be more attractive to the younger generation of birder in Linc's.
