Doing a survey from Julians Bower, at Alkborough, this morning I was waiting for a flock of 26 Whoopers to fly up off the Flats when a calling Waxwing passed unseen but then a loud pitchoo call stated Marsh Tit but this was Alkborough. The only previous Marsh Tit I have seen in North Lincs was in 1971 and in Lincs there are virtually no records away from the core range in the south-west with the most northerly birds at Potterhanworth Wood. A few trapped birds at Gib are the only acceptable out of range records I can recall so this was a big claim. After five minutes of pishing it reappeared and sat calling in front of me allowing some hoped for photos. Nuthatches were calling in the same trees, another species that is a pretty recent addition to the local avifauna, so could Marsh Tits be set to follow?

At least you won't be slagged off as I was, Graham!

Classic error Graham. How many times do we have to face this awkward claim.

Currently enjoying the end of a 10 day holiday in Portugal this certainly caught my eye. Having trawled through the last 2 years' Marsh/Willow Tit records for the species summary for the LBC Annual Report this is an exceptional record and has reminded me not to discount the unexpected!! Hopefully, both species will continue to surprise us and turn up where they are not currently expected!

Interesting to note that they are almost directly opposite Alkborough in East York's.I have seen them at several sites including North Cave Wetlands and Welton Water.Could it be from this area taking a big migration for a Marsh Tit across the Humber.

Steve.
