2 Black necked grebes showing well at Frampton this afternoon (still showing at 5pm) also 3 Med Gulls.

Just thought I'd better explain why the news on the BNG's was put out (Colin's posting here was after news had been released via Twitter) seemingly contrary to Phil's posting on rare breeding birds;

Frampton is a busy wardened nature reserve. The habitats are designed to be able to be viewed from everywhere by all (wardens of the past take note!), this means there aren't really any private nooks and crannies birds like this can hide and breed away from the public gaze. So it's not like we could really keep anything like this quiet even if we wanted to. If the grebes had decided to nest we would have instigated a 24hour wardening policy anyway, so we may as well promote them to take the pressure off sensitive sites. As site manager for the RSPB here I do feel I'm able to make this call, but wouldn't dream of promoting BNG's in summer at another/unwardened site where there was potential for nesting.

The birds were displaying which was great to see, but unsurprisingly haven't stayed as the habitats here aren't what they typically go for.

There has clearly been a broad front of BNG's migrating across the country at the moment, with birds 'dropping' onto numerous site in Lincolnshire. Yesterday there were two birds at Barton Pits, which stayed 24hours before leaving overnight. I removed information regarding these birds from the LBC Forum and LBC Photo album as it was less clear cut than the RSPB Frampton birds.

Hopefully all members appreciate how tricky this is to manage, and how the bird club has a responsibility to ensure that it is dealt with correctly. With the Barton birds now gone, I am more than happy for images and the information to appear on the LBC website,

We did not intend to upset anyone with our posting on BNG, as it had been reported on Bird guides before we went to see the birds did not think there would be an issue.

I think you might assume that I would not put info out if birds were in suitable breeding habitat either but the sailing pit has no fringing vegetation and the birds were clearly intent on moving on -- had they been on a suitable breeding pit then they would have been kept quite --
