Serin - female, showed below feeders in the plantation.

Was on site from 1830-2040 this evening. No sign of the Serin, but the weather was pretty awful for the most part. A birder from Nottingham had last seen her at 1730(ish), so there has to be a chance that she hunkered down for the night when the deluge started.

and present at 5pm this evening along with a pair of Garganey still on Jacksons Marsh, a couple of Turtle Doves flew over the east dunes heading north.

Serin still present today (10th) at the bird feeding station, also the first Spotted Flycatcher of the spring nearby (per Garry Wright), they were both in the same tree at one point!

Serin still present at the bird feeding station around 11:50 (11th May), this is the first sighting of the bird today.

The Serin is best looked for in the afternoon (1100hrs-1300hrs), a lot of folks are not having much luck early morning or late evening

Serin still present and showing well this afternoon - every 20 minutes or so

Just a thought but has there ever been such a long staying Serin at a feeder in Britain? Guess there could not be a connection with the Canary at Mablethorpe in the discussion album?

I haven't seen the bird but when I look at the photos I see a disproportionately large bill. Is it my imagination?

Although I agree I can't remember another one staying at a feeder station for an extended period.

With long primaries (6 pp beyond the tertials and exposed pp = tertial length) plus neatly striated crown the identification is secure but I guess we just have to feel blessed it has chosen Gib to set a potential precedent...

Was just wondering if you keep canaries whether you might keep serins as well?

The answer is yes - see http://www.petcraft.com/docs/serin.shmtl. I've just seen the link didn't work but just google Serin Cage Bird you'll find confirmation that they are kept by aviculturists.

I believe this is a wild bird not a cage bird from my views of it.
Take the chance to see it before it's gone for good, chances like this don't come often.
