Thought everyone had seen the one at Covenham,
in flight at least being flushed over & over by photographers.

Whilst I can understand the disappointment of people finding out about the bird too late, maybe it would be good to find out the circumstances before a 'witch hunt' is started.

I don't suppose this was a case of 'suppresion' more a case of uncertainity at the time but, I wonder how many local birders have suppressed rarities however genuine the reason?

PS No Derick, not all of us saw the Cov bird (flushed or unflushed!!) :twisted:

Hi James. Hope your well and doing your patch ( country park) regularly.
I don't do diplomatic well but I really was trying to make light of the event by making a joke. {obviously not funny ;-)

}.
No intended criticism of the Terek finder or suggestion of suppression meant in my comments.

Only last week I met a guy who is more of a photographer than birder. He showed me a photo of a Great White Egret taken on the Trent. Describing it as the biggest Little Egret he'd ever seen. GWE is now a mile away from were he took photo at NWT reserve at Besthorpe.

Before everyone starts jumping on their high horses,no one is suggesting it is or has been suppressed,the fact is that Terek Sand isn't the hardest of waders to ID particularly after all the photos posted in the spring and I think everyone should know what one looks like.Even if the news had been put out as a possible at the time,Local birders could have gone to the site and checked it out.This is Just my opinion that's all,not gutted before that's the next question,as I have seen several before,but it would have been nice to see a local one at Far Ings,a site I have watched or visited since 1986.

Whilst I don't really feel the need to explain myself I must have my say..I was unsure of the ID of the bird...I saw it for about 5 mins, most of the time obscured by vegetation...I grabbed a record shot or two then had to leave. I did not get to look at the image closely until the next day and then sent it to someone for ID help, as soon as that was confirmed I put out the word.
I have never suppressed a bird in my life...one of my favourite aspects of my hobby is to share and let other people enjoy seeing what I see.
I have never seen a Terek before and to be honest haven't studied any images/information of them including the Covenham bird.
I do hope the bird is relocated in the area. Birding is continually a learning curve and lessons have been learned here.
I must also say thanks to people (they know who they are) for the positive messages received both privately and via social media about this find. For me that's what its all about.
