Had a ride out to Frampton yesterday, beautiful sunshine if a bit chilly; couldn't find the Glossy Ibis, saw three buzzards in and around the small wood to the south of Frampton roads, but into the sun made ID pretty difficult, one may have been the RLB...but impossible to tell.
Drove down to Dunsby and immediately saw two Marsh Harriers hassling a cock pheasant that was secure in the middle of a hawthorn bush, saw both again over the next 30 mins going up and down the drain, one appeared to have a green tag on its left wing but couldn't make out anything? On the way back towards Dunsby i watched a Barn owl quartering some rough grass, good light and got some ok shots. Then went over to Hawthorpe, a couple of Buzzards and loads of Fallow deer and also a Red Kite perched in a distant tree. On the way back saw another Barn owl near Bassingham bridge.
This morning, despite the freezing fog, thought i'd have a ride over to some of the fen roads, saw a male Sparrowhawk hunting just outside Carlton and a couple of Kestrels along Navenby straight, once up in Navenby the fog cleared and it was quite bright, on the back road out of Navenby i saw a distant silhouette at the top of a dead tree probably 300m away and assumed a Buzzard, closer inspection with the scope revealed a Peregrine having a good old preen, watched it for 10 mins and then it flew off into the gathering mist, well worth the trip out. Down Thorpe Tilney fen it was really foggy again but managed to spot a female Merlin on a post not far from Witham bank. Had a quick look at Norton Disney pit and saw 4 pairs of Red Crested Pochard.
Not a bad couple of days all in all.
