Went to have a look at the Long Eared Owl at Deeping first thing this morning and it was in good view in the morning sunshine although a small branch was obscuring some of its face. Also got some good shots of a Green Woodpecker.
Then went for a trawl round Dunsby and Hawthorpe areas. Nothing of note at Dunsby although there was a shoot on. Hawthorpe not much going on either, but late on had good views of two Kites skirmishing with a Raven. No joy again with the SEOs. Going to Norfolk on Wednesday so hopefully might hook up with some there.

Cheers,

Oliver

Is the bird still there? If so, I'm hoping to go there and see it.....

WOOHOO!!!! :D

Went there and got it! Thanks for the information everyone! =D>

Also saw a Barn Owl on the road out of the reserve, and it flew alongside our car for a good 45 seconds, before Food O'Clock diverted it away from us!

7 Kestrels seen on the drive there from Boston!

Oliver,
You mention wanting to find SEO's. In the E. Midlands the RSPB Nene Washes at Eldernell is far and away the current hot spot. When I was there in 2.5 hrs had 7 SEO's, 2 Crane, 3 Marsh Harriers, Sprawk, 2 Kestrel, 2 Buzzards 1 Merlin, 1 M Hen Harrier (in to roost), Bewick and Hooper Swans, plus 2 Kingfishers and hundreds of Lapwing and B-T Godwit all visible from the car park!. Anything from 2 to 7 SEO in the air at once and as close as 20M. Great for observation and photography. The warden reckons there are 10 to 12 SEO on the reserve at present. Eldernell car park is just E of Whittlesey off A605. Directions on RSPB website under Nene Washes. The R-L B at Holme Fen is only 8 miles away and a pretty reliable morning shower between 10 and 1.
In N Norfolk Burnham Overy Dunes is producing 2 SEO and an Rough-Legged Buzzard nearly every day. Visible by scanning marshes towards the dunes from layby/crossroads on main road just E of village. I will be in Norfolk next week and popping along for a look.
good luck.
Ian
