I could not possibly comment from the video but I am concerned about the lack of postings on the forum. I hardly do any postings now and the reason is twitter. I am not a twitter user and it's nothing to do with technology it's a personal choice. most people now post via twitter and I have no access to that because of my opt out. that means everyone can read my postings but for me it is a one way street I cannot read theirs. the first thing ask for is e mail address and I will not give it to be bombarded with junk mail adverts etc. I also object to my info being posted worldwide via twitter without my permission to do so. I did raise this with Andrew at least a year ago but there seems to be no opt out from within the lbc so I don't post much any more and do not do much twitching really so I am losing interest with the lbc I am more interested in conservation.

Hi Terry.
I'm one of the obsessive twitter users you speak of and am unfortunately also guilty as charged of not posting so often, direct via the LBC forum. Sorry!

When out in the field birding in Linc,s I do share my bird news via @lincsbirding twitter feed and in turn LBC then post my news on the Forum. Don't they?

Surprised to hear your comments Terry regarding emails, being bombarded with junk mail and posting without your permission. As with twitter one can 'block', 'report', 'mute' and or refuse access to anyone you choose.
You can choose to only receive and post bird news to @Lincsbirding if you so wish. So please don't lose interest Terry. Give twitter another go mate.

IMHO All LBC members would benefit if all members with smartphones used twitter while in the field to provide other forum members with instant bird news.

Note to self: I must also post to forum more often.

I've just looked at the video several times and think that James has covered practically all aspects that one can glean from it. Overall, the bird certainly seems in warmer and browner plumage than the greyness of a winter American Golden Plover and also sports a good creamy supercillium. The size, build and proportions also point favourably to Pacific Golden Plover. I can well understand the extra caution over identification in view of the midwinter date.
Well found Neil.

I'd guess a lot Graham.

If the bird had been in Yorkshire or Norfolk I am sure that it would have been far better publicised via Twitter etc., Derick. Also, is there any chance that there are some birders that won't go to Alkborough? I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that there were some animosity about the site when it was first being developed.

I for one would love to be able to try and get over to see such birds but i am, unfortunately, not one of the lucky ones who are retired or are earning a living in the environmental business and time is no problem.

Hi James. Can't comment on why some birders might not want to visit Alkborough. The restoration was well on its way when I first visited.
As for being retired, its nothing to do with luck in my case. Unfortunately it's entirely due to me being old and worn out. ;0)
Maybe there's a lack of old gits like me, or lots of hard working birders like yourself in Linc's James.
I really don't know but after spending 2 days 'alone' looking for the reported Little Bunting at Lee Park near Gainsborough before a Notts. birder friend came to help me re-find it. One wonders!

Anyway. Weather & doctors appointments permitting, I'll be visiting Alkborough this week to look for the PGP.
Wish me luck James.
