Wednesday.
Stopped off at Royden Common to have a look for the Great Grey Shrike, but in the driving rain no joy.
Went on to Titchwell, usual wildfowl, nothing out of the ordinary really. got some good shots of Grey Plover though.
Then went on to Warham Green raptor roost, saw a distant male Hen Harrier and a couple of Marsh Harriers but had to leave about 4pm as my long suffering wife was freezing, however, it was a bitterly cold wind.
Happy to report that the birders that arrived as we were leaving saw 7 Hen Harriers come into roost later on!!
Thursday.
Forecast not good, did get reasonable views of a male Hen Harrier at Morston Quay. Moved on to Cley, a group of 13 Avocets and a Marsh Harrier with prey were the highlights. Parked down the road at Holkham pines for lunch in one of the most violent hail storms i've seen, Redshank, BT Godwit and Pink feet fed on unconcerned.
The weather perked up a bit after this and we went for a walk down to Burton Overy Staithe dunes, we saw Red Kite, Marsh Harrier, Common Buzzard, (no RLB), Kestrel, 3 Barn Owls and 2 SEOs, a good, productive walk. 2 Egyptian geese on the walk back as well as loads of Brent.
Friday.
Went down to Thornham harbour first thing and got good shots of the flock of Twite that are currently there. Moved on to Titchwell, a Woodcock in the scrub near the car park was a good start, and we also saw a Chinese Water deer on the salt marsh, nothing else of note, a bit quiet really.
Good views of a Kite at Burnham Norton and Burnham Overy produced Turnstone and Ringed Plover.
An enjoyable trip, although a bit on the cold side.
