A Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming at Hundleby Springs this morning, the earliest I have heard one.

I heard one in a wood near Hawthorpe on Sunday and one in Hill Holt Wood yesterday. Good to hear them again.

No drummers today, but hearing the first singing Song Thrushes of the year, on patch, was most welcome, 1 South Hykeham and 1 Aubourn, lovely.

Heard a Blackbird in lovely voice on Monday!

Also, I believe I have a pair of courting Robins in the garden.....

The above were joined today by the first Yellowhammer singing this year by me plus Buzzards thermally around lunchtime.

A 6 mile walk with Pete Childs on sunny 17th Feb around Burwell / Haugham woods
3 coal tits singing along with 2 goldcrest, also several chaffinch, skylarks, great and blue tits, 3 robins 1 dunnock
1 song thrush, 2x pairs buzzards 1 kestrel,1 nuthatch,
a flock of c160 redwing flighting around, 2 GSW calling but no drumming.

Single Oystercatcher back on territory
Pair of Shelduck also back on territory, both species regular breeders at this site in recent years.

Single Brambling at seed feeder with 15 Tree Sparrows and 15 Chaffinches

Green Woodpeckers last year occupied a nest hole situated some 25 feet from our kitchen window. This is in a willow tree & took some 3 weeks to excavate.

Male has been revisiting over the last month and was particularly vocal this week with response from what appeared to be a female calling from a nearby spinney.

Checked an owl nest box 070315 which has had broods of barn owls raised previous years ,now occupied by tawny owl ,
another site has pair of little owls, and yet another nest box has pair of barn owls.
