The Birdguides report refers to a sighting on 23rd not today, it was posted at 7:41 and probably refers to the sighting reported on here, Bassingham used as a general location.

Thank you Russel.

Just back from the area, unable to relocate the bird today. Andy Gibson and myself spent all afternoon until dark searching every accessible part of the estate, Andy having already spent the morning searching the adjacent Blackmoor area, and Colin Scott searching the Estate this morning.

I certainly could be wrong but, I do feel that the bird would have been relocated if it was still present in the area.

If the bird is the same one that has visited previously, perhaps it would be worth a look around the area it favoured in Bassingham in the past.

Regards,

Ben.

In case anyone is having a look for the Great Grey Shrike in the Aubourn area this weekend or beyond, an internet search revealed that the area is again or still has Defra status and there is a detailed map of all of the accessible parts of the estate-

http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboa ... 53431A.pdf

I had a good look today, doing a couple of circuits, obviously I didn’t come across the bird, but it is a large area.

Also if you are there, at the south east end there is a fair chance of a Barn Owl hunting in the afternoon.

Regards,

Ben.
