I had a double take as I drove past what looked like a Gannet at the side of the road near Hemingby today, turned out it was a Juvenile Gannet so I stopped to see if it was OK.
It didn't appear injured but would only flounder about in the grass as I approached it so I decided to take it in to care to prevent it from wandering into the road.
Having placed my coat over the bird, to stop it's dagger like beak from injuring me, I rang Roy Harvey for advice as I knew he had a similar incident at Great Limber a few years back. Roy suggested I ring the Weirfield Wildlife Hospital in Lincoln who do fantastic work looking after our "in need" local wildlife. They asked if I could bring it to their address in Lincoln? so with safety googles on and a Gannet wrapped in my coat and tied up with string I duly delivered the bird.
Hopefully it will be released nearer the sea when it is fully recovered.
