Freddy,
I think it would be very difficult to say for certain weather Josh's Grimsby bird bred here or was a drift migrant from Scandinavia. If you google "The breeding ecology of the Spotted Flycatcher in lowland England " it will throw up the Ph D thesis of Dr Danae Stevens, a fellow ringer and RSPB Researcher. I'm sure you"ll find it most interesting.

Thanks, Stuart, for the details of an interesting Spotted Flycatcher website although skimming and scanning failed to produce any reference to autumn drift migration from the Continent, concentrating, as the thesis does, on the bird's breeding ecology in lowland England. My other special SpotFly interest - post-breeding/premigration group sites - was passed over fleetingly.
