There are some cracking photo's of this bird by the finder here https://twitter.com/rbnUK/status/653160424670670848 but little sign of the bird afterwards. Much noise and disturbance along the footpath by all and sundry unfortunately. Other birds in the area included 2 Ring Ousels and a Firecrest in the west dunes/sycamores area; 30+ Redwing; 8 Fieldfare; 1 Marsh Harrier over the plantation; 1 GG Shrike in the ringing hollow near the observatory.

The Rustic Bunting showed well on two or three occasions over about an hour.

Also of interest today was a male Redstart in the East Dunes with a pretty decent pale wing panel which was thus possibly an Ehrenberg's.

Additional personal totals during the day were:

Great-Grey Shrike 1
Yellow-Browed 1
Firecrest 3
Goldcrest 350
Ring Ouzel 26
Tree Pipit 1
Brambling 10
Redwing 250
Fieldfare 35
Song Thrush 45
Spotted Redshank 1
Med Gull adult

The main arrival of birds occurred from about 10am

I also did a round at Gib on the 11th and almost every sycamore was jumping with goldcrests (estimate of 300-400). My brambling total was about 15. Also had a grey wagtail, 8 swallows, 20+ siskins, arctic skua and a gannet.
Cheers
Brian

The Rustic Bunting was found by Alan Temple at about 10:30 on Sunday. He was accompanied by Martin Swannell, a visiting birder from Northampton. Other lucky observers were a group of RSPB members from Litchfield.

Nice one Alan!

Regards to all,

C&S

Colin, I believe that the person with Alan Temple when the Rustic Bunting was found was Martin Swannell from Northampton.
Information received from Alan, who called me yesterday evening.

Regards

Roy

You're quite right Roy - I have corrected my misspelling - apologies to all!
