After so long hearing of my partner in crime (Chris Grimshaw) counting 50 or 60 Lesser Redpoll on his feeders, today I can report the first on our feeders in Canwick.

It was just about this time last year that numbers started building up although for a third of the days in January no redpolls were seen. This year so far we have had a presence every day in January in fair numbers which make me blasé about what we have

Many goldfinch every day too

Obviously the counts are the the maximum we saw feeding together so the figures could well be in excess of what has been recorded so far. Last year the good counts came from the next six or seven with several counts of over 40 and 50 and into the sixties, so it will be interesting to see what the next few weeks brings. So Andrew Vaughan I don't wish to appear greedy but you pinch my birds
