A redhead Smew flew into the mere at 10:15, only my second here in 33 years. Also 19 Tufted Duck and 16 Pochard.

After sitting in the hide a couple of hours believing the bird long gone and really hoping for the bittern; much to my surprise the red-head eventually reappeared just after ten past four out of the reeds in the east bay. Also 23 goosander (12 male and 11 female) dropped in to roost just before to smew reappeared. A little egret present and two buzzard over too
